A continuation from last month's coverage: the Hospice of the Chesapeake/Metropolitan's Fashion Show Fundraiser on April 30, 2006, grossed nearly $25,000 to benefit the hospice.

The Annapolis Rotary Club hosted its 3rd Annual Black Tie and Diamonds Gala at Loews Hotel in Annapolis on Saturday, April 29, for the benefit of the Annapolis Maritime Museum. The audience included 320 generous supporters of the museum, who donned their finest attire and enjoyed an evening of dinner and dancing to the music of the Radio City band.

The Baltimore Washington Medical Center Foundation announced on April 27 Delivering the Future, a $12 million, 2-year capital campaign that will raise money for the medical center's new patient tower, obstetrics unit, and expanded emergency department. The foundation also announced that Bob Pascal, former Anne Arundel county executive, made the first gift of the campaign by donating $2 million toward the women's center, which will include the new obstetrics unit and open in 2008. The center will be named in memory of Pascal's daughter, Robin Elizabeth Pascal. Both announcements occurred during a private celebration event featuring medical center leaders and Joan Lunden, television personality and author.

What's Up? Annapolis Magazine sponsored a Public Relations Workshop for Nonprofits organized by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis (UUCA) Arts Council, held at the UUCA. More than 80 attendees posed questions to a panel that included representatives from local publications.

More than 170 volunteers and staff kicked off National Volunteer Week during the annual Hospice of the Chesapeake Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Crofton Country Club on Sunday, April 23.

Hospice of the Chesapeake's 10th Annual 2006 Beacon of Hope Gala was held Saturday, April 1, at the BWI Airport Marriott in Linthicum. The event drew more than 500 local supporters and raised $277,000 for programs and services throughout Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. Walt and Nancy Petrie were the honorees and Brian J. Gibbons of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corporation was the honorary chair. Melanie Graw was the chairperson of the 2006 Beacon of Hope Gala volunteer committee. Also in attendance was Maryland governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.

On May 11 new European-inspired boutique DIVA hosted a private opening at its 30 Market Space location, adjacent to Chico's. Owners Laura Bevilacqua and Michele Deckman showcased their summer fashions, modeled by their very own daughters Tracy, Elisa, Marina, Ashley, and Julia. The boutique offers the latest in New York and LA fashions, inspired by the owners' Italian heritage.
