The KIVD's (Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department) Annual Wine Pairing Extravaganza took place at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club on March 30. The event featured samples of exceptional wine vintages paired with the delicious tastings of signature dishes from some of Queen Anne's best chefs. Wine aficionados were also on hand, sharing knowledge about various wines, and offering samples of their favorite selections. Founding sponsors were the Queenstown Bank of Maryland and the Centreville National Bank of Maryland . All proceeds benefit the construction of a new fire station on Kent Island . Scossa Restaurant opened its doors to supporters of Project Idlewild on April 12, for a night of jazz, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a silent and live auction. Scossa provided the venue and supplied the food, while Hair O' The Dog Wine & Spirits and Wet Dog Car Wash provided an open bar. More than $35,000 was raised for Project Idlewild, a group of concerned citizens devoted to creating a safe and unique play space for children utilizing Idlewild Park . On Saturday, March 31, Queenstown celebrated its 300 th Anniversary , with a day full of historical demonstrations and reenactments, food, ceremonies, and a parade. The Singers Madrigale and David Hildebrand provided guests with Colonial music, and an artists' village featured the works of about forty artists and craftspeople from Maryland , Virginia , and Pennsylvania . The John Beale Bordley Award was presented to Queenstown farmer Tim Bishop for his agricultural accomplishments, and the Richard Tilghman Award for Service to the Community was presented to author and historian Harry C. Rhodes. On April 16, the Women and Girls Fund celebrated their Fifth Annual Grants Award Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cambridge . The Women & Girls Fund of the Mid-Shore provides grants to non-profit organizations each year for programs addressing unmet or underserved needs of women and girls in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, and Talbot counties. Recipients of this year's grants were announced at the festive luncheon. |
