A returning All-Metro and All-County shortstop, Yannone is hoping to lead the Cougars to an encore Class 4A State Championship season. In 2007, Yannone led the Cougars to the 4A State title and an overall 23-3 record to take the number one ranking in the Baltimore Sun’s final Top 15 Poll for the metro area. Yannone, who also played three years of field hockey, but chose not to play her senior year, was the Cougars’ cleanup batter and hit .391 with 17 runs scored and 21 RBIs. She led the team in triples with six and anchored the infield with her soft hands and strong arm. “We had a lot of fun last year and have pretty much the whole team back this year,” said Yannone, who has signed with UMBC. “All of us play on travel teams in the summer, so we are conditioning all year. I go to the gym everyday and run everyday. I played for the Riviera Beach Spirit and working out three of four times a week really helps you out for summer ball.” Yannone is also an outstanding student with a 3.9 grade-point-average and 1,520 SAT and is ranked 34th in her senior class of 420. She is a member of Chesapeake’s National Honor Society and plans to major in environmental science at UMBC. “When I visited UMBC, I really liked the school and the players, many who are from the county,” said Yannone. “I really enjoyed the girls on the team.” Yannone’s favorite player is the New York Yankees’ shortstop Derek Jeter. She loves the way he plays the game and carries himself. She is the daughter of Louis and Michelle Yannone.
