Fitzgerald thrives when he’s at the center of the action. Now a junior, Fitzgerald has established himself as a standout player at arguably the most physically demanding positions in both of the sports he loves. As the Lions’ starting catcher, Fitzgerald needs to nurture the pitching staff while remaining prepared for a potential play at the plate. As a running back and linebacker for the football team, he needs to be prepared to take a hit on the offensive side of the ball and deliver a hit on the defensive side of the ball. A member of the Honor Roll and an aspiring physical trainer, Fitzgerald received honorable mention as an All-Bayside Linebacker in his sophomore season. Between receiving a post-season honor as an underclassman and a stoic demeanor that he carries off the field, Fitzgerald has generated high expectations going into his senior season. Fitzgerald’s father, Chris, reflected those expectations, saying, “I assure you, he will not disappoint as far as being ‘worth watching’.” Fitzgerald, however, remains focused on working hard. “[If] our teams…give 100 percent in practice and in games, for four quarters or nine innings, then failure is impossible,” he says. Fitzgerald lists his favorite athlete as the recently deceased Sean Taylor, formerly of the Washington Redskins.
