Athletes Worth Watching

Andrea Catucci

Archbishop Spalding High School
Volleyball & Softball

An All-County performer in both volleyball and softball, Catucci is also a very good student with a 3.5 grade-point-average and is a member of the National Honor Society. “It’s been fun to play, I just love volleyball,” says Catucci, a senior captain and setter on the Cavaliers Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference contender. “We’ve been really successful, JV and varsity.” Spalding hopes to challenge defending champion, St. Paul’s School for Girls in the A Conference playoffs this season, just as they did last year as the runner-up to the Crusaders. The 5’6 Catucci, who is the team’s serving and assists leader, also plays defensive specialist and libero. “I just have to keep working hard and playing all the time to get better,” said Catucci, who has an offer from Robert Morris for volleyball with a couple other schools also interested and she has a few academic offers as well. Catucci plays for the BAVA (Bay Area Volleyball Association) club volleyball team, one of the top teams in the area. She has been a Cavs starter in softball since her freshman year, first as an outfielder and then a catcher last spring when she played a major role in the team’s third IAAM A Conference title in four years last spring. Catucci plans to major in Resort and Hospitality Management when she settles on a college where she will likely play volleyball only. She said it was a big decision to choose between her two sports. “I like to travel and organize and plan parties,” says Catucci, who volunteers at the Crofton Convalescent Center. “I think the whole thing will be great for me. Spalding has been a great school for me and I've learned a lot.” Catucci credits her club coach Jamie Leventry, who is the head coach at Severna Park High School, for her improvement each year in volleyball. “He’s taught me a lot and is just a great coach,” said Catucci. She resides in Davidsonville with her parents, Angelo and Roberta Catucci.
