Christi Laite

Severna Park High School
Volleyball

Severna Park volleyball coach Jamie Leventry predicts a bright future for Laite, a 6’2 junior hitter who leads the defending Anne Arundel County Champion Falcons. “Christi is one of the very best in the metro area and I think she will do very well as a college player,” says Leventry, who also coaches the BAVA club team on which Laite plays. Laite has a lot going for her in terms of being a top D-1 prospect who has drawn interest from such schools as Miami and UNC-Wilmington. She has the height, power, athleticism, attitude, competitive desire, and academics with her impressive 4.5 weighted grade-point-average and class rank of 40 out of 450 students. “I’m looking to go into sciences, bio chemistry, marine biology something like that,” says Laite. “Academics is important to me. My mom (Deb) and dad (Jim) always insisted that I do well in school and play some type of sport (was a basketball player before high school), so, I’ve always had that type of structure of practice after school and get my homework done. I've always really enjoyed school and gotten good grades.” Laite also has worked hard to improve her volleyball skills. “I plan to go out for the National team again this summer, but if I don’t make the team, I will go to one of the camps they offer,” said Laite, who played on the 16-year-old team last summer and will go for the under-17 this summer. “I hope to solidify my college choice by the end of my junior year. I went to Arizona this past summer with a USA team and competed in an International tournament. The level of play was so much better than anything around here. If you make the National team, you go out to California to train and go to other places. It was in Puerto Rico last year.” Laite feels that she needs to work on where she hits and her defense. She says she hits down the line a lot and needs to hit cross more and “keep working on my defense if I want to play in college.”
