Severn Town Club ’s 44th Annual Holly Ball, held on November 30 at Loews Annapolis Hotel, was a huge success, raising almost $44,000 for multiple charities including the Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County and Hospice of the Chesapeake. Reggie Broddie, director of the Boys & Girls Club, was honorary chairman of the event. More than 200 guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner, silent and live actions, and dancing to the Crabtowne Big Band.


On January 27 Annapolis Alive! celebrated three centuries of Annapolis’ rich history at a public event at Westfield Annapolis Mall. The fest included celebrities such as Baltimore Raven Matt Stover, sailing guru Gary Jobson and Leon Redborn, a nationally-known Rams Head favorite. Local R&B group Raw Hands entertained while about 150 people enjoyed food samplings from McCormick and Schmick, the Main Ingredient, Noodles & Company, and Phillips Seafood. Exhibits of art, photography, maritime, and cultural matters commemorated 300 years of Annapolis since its charter was signed. Proceeds from a silent auction benefited the Chesapeake Children’s Museum.

On February 19, “Ragin Cajun,” a happy hour celebrating Mardi Gras, was held at the Federal House Bar and Grille in downtown Annapolis for members of the Annapolis Business Association and their guests. About 30 people attended the gathering where board members and others could meet and greet and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and other refreshments. The association is launching a public relations campaign to attract shoppers and tourists to the downtown area.

The Kent County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast was held on Jan. 21, 2008 at the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company. The event is sponsored by the Chester Valley Ministers’ Association, with additional help from Kent County Arts Council. The student winners of the Vincent Hynson Memorial Award were Shanara Lee, Rock Hall Middle School, Diamond Lewis, Chestertown Middle School, and Ashley Strong, Galena Middle School.

Visitors to the opening reception of the Herman Maril art exhibit at the Ward Museum in Salisbury, were treated to opening remarks from Walters Art Museum Director Gary Vikan who was introduced by State Delegate Norman Conway. The Walters Art Museum partnered with the Ward Museum to produce the exhibit that featured paintings and drawings of birds and marshlands by the late Maryland painter spanning six decades.

Hospice of Queen Anne's County held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Centreville facility on Wednesday February 13.

The 2nd Annual Bosom Buddies Ball was held in January at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville. The charity is hoping to raise $300,000 for a new mammography machine for early detection of breast cancer.
