The 10th Mardi Gras Gala was hosted by the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County at the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel and included dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions, and music by Radio City. Proceeds of $28,000 were raised to help fund local arts and historic organizations along with the Arts-in Education program that brings artists and programs into public and private schools.

More than 400 guests enjoyed silent and live auctions, cocktails, dinner and dancing to music by Gazze at the fifth annual Black Tie and Diamonds gala at the Westin Hotel hosted by the Rotary of Annapolis Foundation. Mimi Jones and Susan Ray were co-chairman of the gala, one of the largest and most successful fund raisers held in Annapolis. Former Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. and Kendel Ehrlich were honorary chairmen. The popular raffle with a $15,000 prize was won by Harry Jones and Mark Prossner received the second place award of $3,000. Jim Wills won the Harley Davidson motorcycle, while others bid on vacation trips, diamond earrings and other jewelry, dinners, and tickets to cultural and sports venues. Proceeds went to Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts to help with the conversion of the existing gym at the former high school into a small performing arts venue.

Twenty-five guests savored delightful cuisine from four different ports on Feb. 21 at the Ports of Call at the Doubletree Hotel during an Annapolis Supper Club event. The evening began with a champagne toast followed by four courses paired with four different wines. Hosted by What’s Up? Publishing Group, the festive dinner concluded with the guests choosing a favorite charity to receive 10 percent of the proceeds. The funds were given to the Salvation Army.

On March 11, Leadership Anne Arundel’s 3rd Annual Community Trustee Awards ceremony was held. This year’s ceremony kicked off with live music, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks at Maryland Hall for The Creative Arts in Annapolis. Over 130 people attended and County Executive John Leopold congratulated the award winners, thanking them for their commitment to making Anne Arundel County a better place to live and work. Award winners included: Jim Walker, Steve Anstett, Roberta Cassard, Dr. Charlestine Fairley, Delores Hawkins, Suzanne Herr, Gregg Meade, Barbara Moeller, Jenni Smith, Russell D. Stewart and Carol Treiber.

Annapolis Idol, an American Idol-spinoff, karoke singing competition was held on March 2 at Renditions Golf Course in Davidsonville. The event was a huge success, raising funds for the Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center in Annapolis. Finalists were judged by Mayor Ellen Moyer, Brent Law of Phoenix Recording Studio, and Eastport-A-Rockin’ event director Jessica Pachler.

Over 200 guests turned out at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay to dine, dance and support the Dorchester General Hospital Snow Ball fundraiser, which raised $82,000 for DGH.

The annual Queen Anne’s County Ducks Unlimited chapter banquet was held at the Kent Island American Legion, raising approximately $20,000 to be used by DU for new and continuing wetlands habitat restoration and conservation projects here in Maryland and beyond. The Maryland State Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education awarded students and educator for their contributions in gifted and talented education.
