is a quartet of master throat singers from Tuva, a tiny republic in the heart of Central Asia and a giant when it comes to mastery of the human voice. Throat singers can produce two or three, sometimes even four pitches simultaneously. The ancient art of throat singing developed among the nomadic herdsmen of Central Asia. Alash has performed at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Grassroots Festival and the Lowell Folk Festival. For over forty-five years, Dr.Maria Boria has served the medical needs of women and children. She founded a hospital for women in India and as an obstetrician/gynecologist worked in hospitals throughout the U.S. establishing a private practice in Chestertown in 1981. For the last three years, she has volunteered her expertise and medical services in a clinic she founded for migrant workers in Marydel, Maryland. 95% of all funds raised by this event, will be used by Dr. Boria to offset expenses at the clinic. * All other expenses are underwritten by private donations. Women Helping Women is a private account created solely for the collection of funds for this event.
