Chilled champagne; Mediterranean martinis complete with swimming gummy fish; an array of cheeses, olives, bread, gazpacho with lobster, and skewered Spanish potatoes were some of the delicacies served to guests attending the opening of Kyma at 69 West Street in Annapolis on June 29. The evening began with Kyma's Area General Manager Oren Molovinsky and General Manager Victoria Caplick cutting a blue ribbon to mark the occasion. The new restaurant's opening was another example of Inner West Street's transformation into a neighborhood peppered with contemporary, cutting-edge retail and dining establishments.

At Metropolitan restaurant on Sunday June 11, guests were able to view and purchase artwork from artists such as Allen Gardner, Kim Pickering, Jimi Haha, Tony Minetola, David Clow, Dave Wicks, Robin Reno, and Jess Hendricks and enjoy light food. The money raised will support Kim Pickering, Stacey Pickering, Lauren Smith, and Jess Hendricks in walking almost 40 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this October in New York City. The money they raise by doing so will go to the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide access to care and to work toward finding a cure.


The Global Salon Business Awards, an international event that acknowledges exceptional business achievement, professionalism, and leadership within the salon industry, recently recognized Robert Andrew's Salon & Spa. Robert Andrew participated with salons from around the world at this year's event in Barcelona, Spain, and was announced as the winner of the 2006 Salon Entrepreneur of the Year-Single Unit for the United States of America-East.


A mighty feast and jousting tournament was held on Saturday, May 20, to celebrate children and adults with special needs who benefit from therapy with Maryland Therapeutic Riding (MTR). Nearly 1000 guests enjoyed this 10th anniversary celebration of MTR and witnessed medieval pageantry, swordplay, and horse and falcon demonstrations at the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament in Arundel Mills in Hanover, Maryland.

The Second Annual Clarks Landing Boat Sales Charity Golf Outing raised $16,500 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The event was held on Friday, June 9, at the River Links Golf Course in Queenstown Harbor. 145 golfers participated in the event, which was won by the Delmarva Collection team. Golfers included the president of Sea Ray, Rick Stone, and several members of the Baltimore Ravens football team, including head coach Brian Billick, offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, quarterback Kyle Boller, offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden, linebacker Adelius Thomas, quarterback Brian St. Pierre, quarterback coaching staff member Rick Neuheisel, and Ravens cheerleaders. A check was presented to Neal Hail, CEO of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, by George and Jeff Truesdale, owners of Clarks Landing.

This past August, community leaders, Hospice of the Chesapeake families, volunteers, donors, and staff recently gathered to celebrate the dedication of the John and Arloine Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House, Hospice of the Chesapeake's second hospice residence, located in Harwood.

On July 9, 2006, Children's Theatre of Annapolis awarded its Miriam Wolfe Memorial Scholarship to two deserving high school graduates, Katie Gardner of Pasadena and Jillian Foley of Arnold. Rosemary Mild, Miriam Wolfe's mother, was a reviewer for the scholarship application process and was present at the award ceremony.
