Editor's Letter | September 2009

As the new managing editor of What’s Up? Weddings, I’ve got a great job. I’ve been lucky enough to spent the past six months or so surrounded by happy people who have planned successful weddings. First and foremost, there were the new brides themselves. I was really touched by their happiness. And it seems to be contagious.

All of the wedding industry insiders I spoke to have the same upbeat, enthusiasm as the merry wives of Maryland. I met caterers, bakers, event planners, banquet managers, dress designers, and photographers and I can say, without exception, that they have certainly chosen the right careers. They may have to work long hours and a lot of weekends, but the kick they get out of making someone’s biggest day even better is wonderfully apparent.

As you plan your wedding, we hope you are inspired by the real-life local weddings we wanted to share with our readers. Additionally in this issue, we had included all the resources you need to make your special day a triumph. From flowers to invitations to gowns to venues, we give you ideas and information to plan the wedding of your dreams.

On the cover of this issue of What’s Up? Weddings we have featured one of the happy brides I spoke of: Kelly Parks Taylor. The photo was taken on the dock behind her parents’ home. The photos on this page were taken at Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield, Maryland. Kelly, a first grade teacher, and her husband Michael are living happily ever after in Crisfield.

Let’s raise a toast to all our newlyweds, all our newlyweds-to-be, and all their happily ever afters!
